It was great to see the Shah family again. I did their photos years ago when their girls were a little younger and I was still a "rookie" building my portfolio of natural light portrait photography. I learn something new each time I have a session or make images of my own family. All types of photography are challenging whether using natural light or strobes. I prefer natural light frankly because I was never any good at the set up studio lighting. Natural light is constantly changing and a spot that had good light one second could be caught with bright direct sunlight the next. I guess I'm saying all of this, because I love to look back on the photos that I did years ago and see that I have in fact grown as a photographer and will continue to do so. I don't think I will ever see myself as having mastered the art. My advice to myself and anyone pursing photography is to keep it simple, just because we have the technology to over edit our images, doesn't mean that we need to use it. Less is more.
Here are some images from the Shah's session last weekend.
Welcome to my photography blog. This blog is all about my photographic life and all of the wonderful people who let me photograph bits of their lives.

The Nenningers
I have know the Nenninger Family for awhile now. They are one of a couple of families who have been with me since the beginning of my portrait photography days. It is so awesome to watch their 3 boys grow each year. We have all come a long way since I began photographing this family. The boys have grown so much and now tolerate me taking their photos and maybe even, dare I say, have a little fun doing it! Check out some images from their session.
I'll leave you with a quote from photographer Mary Ellen Mark that sums up my approach to photography, "Photograph the world as it is. Nothing's more interesting than reality."

Nice photo bomb to get mom and dad laughing. |
This one is a little different, sometimes the same angles and views get a little boring, not sure how I feel about this one yet, but I wanted to share anyway. I always love comments and feedback! |

The Vail Family
I met the Vail's for the first time yesterday for family photos, and what a beautiful day it was. Fall is really arriving the weather is cooler and the leaves are starting to change just a little. A great family and beautiful weather make for some awesome photography! We had some wind to deal with, but if you know me, you know I love it when mother nature kicks things up to help make interesting images. A little hair blown just right can make a "nice" image into a "great" image. Of course, that is just my opinion, but that is also why I'm not a studio photographer. Here are some images from our session, I'm in love with so many of them already and I've just begun editing!
