In Home Sessions

Many of my favorite images come from moments in a clients' own home.  There are many great reasons to have a photo session at your home.  (The fact that it is currently winter and bitterly cold outside is just a small one.)  Mainly because it is your home, that's where most memories are made and your kids are in their element.  I have never been in a home where I haven't found great natural lighting to capture some gorgeous moments between a family.  You could even plan an activity that your family is in to, such as baking cupcakes, pillow fights, bubbles, playing a favorite game, just anything.  If the weather is nice enough, we don't have to be confined to your home, we can also venture outside. Check out some images from in home sessions that I have done in the past and maybe consider it for your next session, I think you'll be glad you did.  And, you don't even have to clean up, most photographers that I admire, and myself as well, just want to capture reality, because there really isn't anything better.

The Year Ahead

Since day one in the portrait photography business, I've been wishy - washy.  Simply put, I have always wavered with my thoughts and my desire to pursue a life in this business.  To be honest, I have struggled with my digital style and oftentimes compare myself to others and wonder if I am even worthy to call myself a professional.  Something in me last year prompted me to get off my rear and do more research and practice new editing techniques so that I can feel deserving of the title "professional photographer".  Whatever it was, maybe the fact that my youngest is beginning kindergarten next year and I would like more of a business to keep me busy, my time and effort in education has paid off, at least in my self confidence.  It's no secret that I have always loved the look of traditional film images.  I have found a way to digitally edit my images to get the timeless look of film that I love.  So this year, I am committed and excited to pursue more clients and give this business a real shot, no pun intended.  On that last note, you will never hear me say "photo shoot" or great "shot".  Of all the things I learned in college, one quote always stuck with me.  It was my photo 2 and advanced black and white professor, Kevin Martini-Fuller who always said, "we shoot ducks, we make images".  I would love to make more awesome images with my awesome clients, new and old, this year.

I believe that awesome images deserve to be made into awesome prints which is why this year I would like to offer, not only the digital files, but more of an incentive to purchase professional prints and even framing and albums.  I am constantly keeping my eye on the photography market and the latest trends in fees and products offered.  While I have never been a trendy person when it comes to my images, my style is what it is and that won't change, there are some really cool companies out there with really beautiful professional products that I want to get my hands on.  However in this digital age, I truly understand the want to have your digital files to keep.  But I also want my images to look their best, and your not going to get the best from photo "labs" like wal-mart, costco, walgreens, and shutterfly to name a few.  I get it, everyone wants a good deal, but why spend all that money on a professional photo session only to get crappy prints, or worse yet, no prints at all.  I want to be affordable, but also make it worth my time away from my family and lets be honest, a little profitable as well.  My session fee will remain $100 and I will now require a minimum of a $200 order on prints, products, and/or digital files after your session.  (Research has shown me that other top photographers in my area are charging $600 + for session fee and products)  Also this year, your digital files will be delivered to you on a flash drive instead of DVD.  While I love the printed DVD's that I have used in the past, they are becoming a thing of the past.  Most laptops these days don't even have CD/DVD drive.  There is a lot happening this year and I am very excited to make Blue Eye Photography a more complete photographic experience for everyone.

I announced yesterday on facebook that I am offering a print package deal for anyone who books a session by the end of  January.  11x14, 3 8x10's and 2 5x7's with any images of your choice from your session. (in addition to your $200 min. purchase)  Booking now until June 2016!
